  5. Hi Abeesh,

I’ve read up on your blog about starting a sole proprietorship. However there are a few things that are still unclear to me. I am hoping you could help:

    1. I called ACRA and they said that I needed a resident PR/Citizen as the manager to register the sole proprietorship. I said that I was a resident DP holder and by getting another person onboard the company becomes a partnership, and is no longer a sole proprietorship. To this I was told that I would be needing a PR or Citizen as the resident manager, and yes, the company would become a partnership post that. Is this correct?

    2. In the ACRA flow chart of how to start a SP, there is a mention of a Medisave A/C. Is there any requirement of a Medisave A/C considering that I’m a foreigner? The ACRA person didn’t know.

Look forward to your reply. Feel free to contact me on my email.

    Thanks,
    Zubin.

    1. Hi Zubin, You can follow the steps in my blog to start a sole proprietorship. Being a foreigner, you don’t need a medisave account.

You can request the MoM to email you LOC from the contact section in the MoM website.

Let me know if you have any questions.

      Best Regards,
      Abeesh

  7. Hi Abeesh,

Thanks so much for putting up this blog and answering all queries. Really appreciate your help.

I have registered the firm into ACRA. My only question is how do I submit document related to LOC approval. For LOC, MOM website says to login into EP online, but this is been done through DP . Do you have specific link or email id where I can follow up on this? Where can I get latest LOC form and which email ID I should send the documents? Quite confused…

    Thanks in advance.

    Vinay

    1. Hi Vinay,

MOM has changed the rules from May 2016. Now the only option for DP holders to start SP is through EntrePass.

You can call me at 82086393 for clarification.

      Thanks,
      Abeesh

  8. Greetings Abeesh,

I came across your blogspot (technicalwritingsingapore). You are definitely very experienced across domains with a great personality to boot. There is a wealth of info in there so thank you for putting that out.

I had a question about tech writing jobs in SG. Most jobs advertised (which are open to foreigners) don’t offer more than 3k SGD/month. I used to work in SG a while back (now I am back in India) and I remember that 3k SGD is not at all enough to survive. Have you seen any jobs at all that offer more, at least enough to live and save a bit? I did understand from your blog that there’s quite a bit of churn, companies shutting shop, short term contracts etc.

Glad to have any inputs you have.
    Best Regards.

    1. Hi Syed, Thanks for your positive feedback. Regarding the tech writing jobs in SG, you’re right. Most of the companies offer low salary which is not worth for you to leave your job in India and come here especially if you have a family. But there are MNCs who pay well, but unlike India, most of the writers here stick to the company, so you don’t see much openings on a regular basis. You need to keep an eye when the opportunity knocks. Hope this helps.
      Regards,
      Abeesh
