Thomas Diary - A walk through my life

27th Jan 2013, Sunday

On Sunday, Pastor Paul Scanlon from the Life Church, England shared the sermon on “Living a God guided Life” at City Harvest Church, Singapore Expo Hall 1.

The service started with the beautiful Praise and Worship from the Life Church band. I enjoyed the song “Our God is greater” by Chris Tomlin.

After the Praise and Worship, Pastor Aries invited Paul Scanlon on the stage to share the Word of God. The audience gave him a warm applause as he walked towards the stage. Pastor Paul Scanlon thanked the audience for their warm welcome and said “you must go where you’re welcomed”.

He started the sermon by mentioning that most of the people are afraid to make decisions in life by thinking whether it’s God’s will or not. There is a tension whether their decision is the will of God or the devil’s. So they remain inactive.

Psalm 37:23-25

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Proverbs 16:9

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

Proverbs 20:24

24 Man’s goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?

“When you read steps in the above verses, it speaks of a life in motion, in momentum. The first thing we must understand is that we must have momentum and not be stationery. You must try something, do something or take a risk. It’s the fear of doing wrong that cripples us. You must get moving this year” quoted Pastor Paul Scanlon.

Paul Scanlon exhorted people to take steps, make decisions. Don’t wait but start doing things. God wants us to do something.  David took steps that got him closer to his destiny. He did not wait.

“Steps precede Guidance” quoted Paul Scanlon.

The Book of Acts is the example of supernatural miracles. The word Acts means people in motion. In spite of all the threats and difficulties, the disciples were constantly in motion – they preached, taught, prayed, performed mighty signs and wonders, they were stoned, jailed, etc but nothing stopped them. “God is involved in motion” said Paul Scanlon.

“Being guided by God is no guarantee that you will not fall. You may hit some turbulence. Life is not about avoiding stumbling, but getting up every time you fall. Every time you stumble, you must rise up. Don’t stay down and do nothing. ” stressed Paul Scanlon.

“Sometimes the will of God is a multiple choice. God’s silent until you take turns like the GPS in a car. God has ways to get you to the destination. Even if you took wrong turns, God will put you back where you have to be. God will put you to the right track even if you have taken a wrong way. Do not panic. But God wants you to be in motion. You must take steps.” said Pastor Paul Scanlon.

The service ended with beautiful praise and worship. After service, we had Korean lunch from Expo and headed back home by MRT. Praise God for a wonderful time 🙂
