It was in 2009 that I arrived in Singapore. During those early months, I was searching for a church that had excellent praise and worship in English, good sermon, healings, deliverance, etc.
I visited several churches, but I found myself drawn to City Harvest Church. The praise and worship deeply moved me.
The anointing of God was powerful. People soaked in the Presence of God. It was this factor that attracted me to the City Harvest Church.
Pastor Kong was sensitive to God’s Presence. He led the people into worship, prayed for healing, deliverance. I have seen lives transformed through God’s power in this Church.
What also stood out was the church’s commitment beyond Sunday services—its outreach to the poor, its emphasis on discipleship and evangelism, and its global connections with pastors and ministries. These aspects shaped my early experience in Singapore.
However, around 2010, news of financial irregularities within the church came to light. I
The leadership faced intense scrutiny—from both within and outside the Christian community.
Despite this, the church displayed remarkable resilience—standing united, continuing daily prayers, and maintaining fellowship. While many chose to leave, a faithful few remained.
I firmly believe that Pastor Kong is an anointed man of God. Having attended the church regularly, I am convinced that these mistakes were not made with malicious intent to deceive but were rather the result of certain individuals like “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” within the church’s leadership board.
Scripture often reminded me of the importance of humility and caution in how we view others. We must never speak ill of God’s anointed servants. Consider the life of David. Even when Saul sought to kill him, David never cursed or spoke ill of Saul. In fact, he went so far as to execute the Amalekite who claimed to have killed Saul. Why? Because David respected the anointing upon Saul’s life. As it is written in 1 Samuel 31:14, David asked, “Why were you not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”
Similarly, reflect on the life of Judas. Jesus never spoke evil of Judas, even though He knew Judas would betray Him. Why? Because Judas, too, had once been anointed.
As for Pastor Kong, I believe he remains an anointed man of God. God is still in control of City Harvest Church. It is His body, and He will refine it like a refiner’s fire, purging all impurities until we shine forth as pure gold.
I continued attending City Harvest Church until 2018. Eventually, I felt led to move to a smaller church community, one closer to my cultural roots, where I could continue my journey of faith in a different setting.
